Hand-crocheted address
Sent by Bray to Agnes Tayler on 2nd April 1900
Bray persuaded his mother to crochet this magnificent item that survived the postal system. It is now mounted on a piece of thick card but when it was posted it was floppy apart from the small piece of card to which the stamps were affixed. Bray often stayed at the Hall where he befriended Agnes, daughter of the widowed owner Annie Tayler.
On the reverse side of the card is a message written in code but I have not yet had the courage to lift the item off its backing card to reveal the full text. Perhaps one day.....
Also shown is a cutting from a 1932 issue of the Cologne Times that published an article about Bray. In the article a number of items featured on this website can be seen including this one.
