Autograph request

Sent by Bray to Sir Chihchen + (Cigarette card featuring Sir Chihchen Lo-Feng-Luh) + K.V.C.O., 49 Portland Place, W on 23rd November 1900 requesting his autograph.

Postcard with a cigarette card attached with the name portion removed leaving the postal authorities the challenge of identifying the intended recipient.

The Post Office deemed this method of addressing mail was contrary to regulations and imposed a 1d. charge.

Sir Chih-Chen Lo-Feng-Luh (1850-1903) was Chinese Minister Plenipotentiary to London, and also to Rome and Brussels between 1897 and 1902. He accompanied the late Li-Hung-Chang on several foreign missions, and was Professor of Nautical Astronomy in the Chinese Imperial Naval College, on the River Min.
