Challenging address

Sent by Bray to Ernest Arnold on 29th January 1900

This envelope represents one of Bray's most audacious pieces of postal mischief. He gummed four previously used U.S. stamps onto the envelope and then sent it to a fictitious address in Jamaica. The addressee could not be found (after all Arnold was in England) and so it went unclaimed until it was mistakenly sent to the U.S. before coming back to England. On its journey it collected a wonderful array of postal markings including a scarce Myrtle Bank Hotel datestamp.

The full story was featured in the August 2015 issue of "Stamp & Coin Mart"
