Illegal stamp

Sent by Ernest Arnold to Bray on 18th January 1900

Arnold cut out an embossed revenue stamp from a legal document, such as a bank cheque, and used it, illegally, to pay the postage.

Arnold tried this trick again on the 31st January, this time incurring the displeasure of the postal authorities.

Also shown is one of Bray's cheques with a revenue stamp.
