Illegal stamp

Sent by Ernest Arnold to Bray on 31st January 1900

Arnold cut out an embossed revenue stamp from a legal document, such as a bank cheque, and tried to use it to pay the postage.

Needess to say the Post Office took issue with this endorsing the card as "Contrary to regulations" and imposing a 1d. charge.

Also shown is one of Bray's cheques with a revenue stamp.
