Autograph request
Envelope sent by Bray to William Wyllie on 26th November 1930.
Personalised envelope addressed by means of longtitude and latitude (actual location in Portsmouth) to William Wyllie. I assume that it contained an autograph request card and that this was Bray's standard means since 1914 since the autograph cards from that date are not addressed to the target. Unfortunately, for Bray, the Post Office declined to respond to the challenge of the strange address.
William Lionel Wyllie (5 July 1851 - 6 April 1931) also known as W L Wyllie was a prolific English painter of maritime themes in both oils and watercolours. He has been described as "the most distinguished marine artist of his day." His work is in the Tate, the Royal Academy, the Imperial War Museum, the National Maritime Museum and many other institutions around the world.
