Autograph request

Picture postcard sent to Bray by Billy Matchett on 16th October 1934 in response to Bray's request for his autograph.

MATCHETT, William Charles 'Billy'
[1889 - 1974], sometimes billed as the 'Mirthquake', was probably at the height of his fame as a comedian during the 1920s and 1930s. Throughout the 1930s he appeared in many touring shows with 'The Two Leslies' - Sarony and Holmes - and often with Sandy Powell in summer seasons. He frequently broadcast on radio, from the 1930s to the 1960s in variety programmes such Workers' Playtime. In later years he specialised in 'Old Tyme Music Hall' either with his own act or as Chairman.
